The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Multicultural Council
is a self-governing, all-volunteer, nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization, which has
been in existence for (22) twenty-two years. The council depends entirely on the
hard work of volunteers and donations from corporations, organizations and
individuals who want to make a difference.
The Council’s
Activities:
- “Interfaith Clergy Breakfast": In the fall the Council sponsors an
Interfaith Clergy Breakfast. It is the hope of the Council that the attendees
carry to their congregation the word of our togetherness and common humanity. We
also seek to facilitate cooperation and a desire to work with the Council to
expand its mission.
- “The Dream Endures”: Involves Youth of
all ages and all denominations. They must have an outstanding role on Dr. King’s
birthday by the motto “a day on, not a day off.” The youth participate in
a service activity, of their choice, during the morning hours of Dr. King’s
birthday. The group is recognized for their efforts during the birthday program
celebration.
- “Keep The Dream Alive” Award: Recognition
is made to unsung volunteers. The Council
says “Thank You” to one organization and two individuals who give their time and
means to help others without thought of accolades or compensation. They are
presented “Keep The Dream Alive” plaques of appreciation on Dr. King’s
birthday in January.
- Scholarships: $1,000 (One Thousand
Dollars) scholarship awards will be made to deserving New Mexico high school
graduates during the birthday celebration.
-
Dr. King’s Birthday Celebration: In the early afternoon of the holiday
the annual finale event is the program celebrating Dr. King’s birthday. This
program features performances by children of varied ethnicities, ranging in ages
from very young through high school. “Scholarships
Awards” and “Keep The Dream Alive” Awards are presented to individuals who have
participated in and been selected as winners.
Donations are appreciated.
